Chapter 8 - Evan’s Excuse
Evan refused to apologize.
He claimed Margaret slipped.
Denise’s own recording disproved him.
Rebecca asked to see the video.
Denise said her battery had died.
The phone was still glowing in her hand.
Tyler looked uncomfortable.
“Mom, just show her.”
Denise snapped:
“Stay out of this.”
Margaret turned to Evan.
“Did you know I cannot swim?”
He shrugged.
“Everybody can swim a little.”
“You heard me ask you not to touch me.”
“You’re making it bigger than it was.”
Margaret looked at Daniel.
“Is this what you taught him?”
Daniel rubbed his forehead.
“He made a mistake.”
“No. A mistake is stepping backward without looking. He placed both hands on me and pushed.”
Evan laughed under his breath.
Margaret heard it.
So did Rebecca.
“You think I will forgive you because you expect your father to protect you,” Margaret said.
