Chapter 28 - Tyler Returns
Tyler returned to the lake one year later.
He asked permission first.
Margaret met him on the porch.
He had stopped working for Daniel and found an entry-level accounting job.
He was repaying money he earned from editing Denise’s deceptive videos.
“I know repayment doesn’t fix it,” he said.
“No.”
“But I want to do it.”
Margaret allowed him to volunteer at Edward’s Harbor.
He helped residents secure phones, preserve evidence, and identify manipulated videos.
One afternoon, he stood near the pier.
“I still hear myself laughing.”
Margaret joined him.
“Good.”
He looked surprised.
“Not because I want you to suffer. Because forgetting would make repeating it easier.”
