Chapter 13 - Daniel’s Second Lie

Daniel claimed he knew nothing about Denise’s plan to pressure Margaret.

Then Tyler opened the family chat.

Daniel had written:

GET HER UPSET FIRST. SHE SIGNS WHEN SHE WANTS PEACE.

Margaret read the sentence twice.

Her son understood her patterns.

For years, whenever family conflict escalated, Margaret apologized to end it.

Daniel had turned that kindness into strategy.

“You knew,” she said.

Daniel’s voice softened.

“Mom, I was desperate.”

“Desperation explains fear. It does not create permission.”

“I was trying to save the company.”

“You were trying to save it with property that was not yours.”

“If the company fails, fifty people lose jobs.”

Margaret almost believed him.

Then Rebecca produced payroll records.

Daniel had reduced staff months earlier.

Only fourteen employees remained.

Most of the debt came from personal spending, failed developments, and a luxury vehicle registered to Denise.

Daniel had used employees as emotional cover.

It was another lie designed to make Margaret feel responsible.
