Chapter 4 - The Phone Notification

Denise looked at the notification again.

The message contained only a few words, but they were enough.

ACCESS CODE REVOKED.

The lake house used a digital security system connected to Denise’s phone because Margaret once allowed her temporary guest access.

That permission had just ended.

Denise tried the application again.

The screen remained locked.

“What did you do?” she asked.

Margaret squeezed water from one sleeve.

“I protected my property.”

Daniel stepped toward her.

“You’re upset. Let’s go inside and talk.”

Margaret looked at Evan.

“He pushed me into deep water knowing I cannot swim.”

Evan rolled his eyes.

“You got out.”

Daniel lowered his voice.

“He was joking.”

“A joke ends when the frightened person says stop.”

Margaret had said stop before Evan touched her.

Denise’s recording contained it.

Margaret had seen the phone aimed at them and warned Evan clearly.

He shoved her anyway.

Now the same video meant to humiliate Margaret preserved the assault.

Denise slowly moved the phone behind her back.

Margaret noticed.
