Chapter 11 - Tyler Stops Laughing

Tyler had laughed when Margaret fell.
Not as loudly as Evan.
But he had laughed.
Now he stood near the porch railing staring at the lake.
Margaret approached him after changing into dry clothes.
“Why did you laugh?”
Tyler swallowed.
“I thought you would stand up before you fell.”
“Evan pushed me from behind.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
He looked ashamed.
“Everyone else was laughing.”
Margaret nodded.
That answer hurt because it was honest.
Tyler admitted Denise had told them to keep recording because the video would “teach Grandma not to act fragile.”
The family planned to post a shortened clip.
They wanted viewers to see Margaret overreacting.
They did not plan to include her warning that she could not swim.
They did not plan to include the moment no one helped.
Tyler unlocked his own phone.
Denise had sent instructions in a family group chat.
FILM EVERYTHING. SHE’LL SIGN AFTER SHE’S EMBARRASSED.
Margaret took a slow breath.
