Chapter 14 - The Lake Beneath Them

Rebecca gathered the family near the large windows overlooking the water.

She placed a survey map on the table, keeping the legal text turned away.

“The Cole trust owns the lake house, the primary shoreline, the pier, and the submerged parcel extending beyond the center channel.”

Daniel stared at the map.

“That’s impossible.”

“It is recorded with the county.”

Denise looked toward the neighboring homes.

“What about their docks?”

“They hold limited access agreements.”

The lake generated annual lease income.

Edward had allowed Daniel to believe the property was a sentimental cabin.

In reality, it was a valuable private water asset.

The silver key did not merely unlock a house.

It represented control of the shoreline business.

Daniel’s lender knew that.

Someone had given them confidential survey information.

Margaret looked at Denise.

Denise avoided her eyes.

She had searched Edward’s files after his funeral and shared documents with the lender.

That explained why the debt agreement specifically referenced water rights.
