Chapter 1 - The Assault at the ER Entrance

The paramedics wheeled my stretcher fast toward double doors.

I clutched my seven-month pregnant belly in sheer terror.

My gray T-shirt was soaked with cold nervous sweat.

My black leggings felt tight against my trembling legs.

Bright emergency lights flashed blindingly above the hospital entrance.

I could barely catch my breath from the pain.

Suddenly a heavy shadow blocked our path to ER.

My domineering father-in-law David lunged forward without warning.

He wore a blue plaid shirt with rolled sleeves.

His face was twisted into pure unbridled rage.

He reached out both heavy hands toward my body.

David grabbed my bare forearm with crushing physical force.

His thick fingers dug brutally into my pale skin.

He violently yanked me off the moving stretcher frame.

My body tumbled sideways toward the hard concrete floor.

I let out a piercing shriek of utter horror.

I wrapped both arms tightly around my unborn baby.

The male paramedic immediately leaped forward with lightning speed.

He seized David's arms and shoved him backward hard.

David stumbled back onto the automatic glass sliding doors.

"Apologize to my son first!" David roared out hysterically.

His loud voice echoed off the concrete hospital walls.

My controlling husband Michael stood right behind his father.

Michael wore a dark navy polo shirt today.

His arms were folded tightly across his broad chest.

He watched my assault with complete and chilling indifference.

He did not step forward to help his wife.

He did not tell his father to back away.

The female nurse rushed out through the sliding doors.

She gasped loudly when she saw me on floor.

Tears of pain and anger burned inside my eyes.

My whole body trembled from the violent physical shock.

I looked up into David's cruel, malicious eyes.

For months he had demanded total submission from me.

He wanted to control every aspect of my life.

He wanted to dictate where I raised my child.

When I refused his demands at dinner last night,

He promised he would break my stubborn spirit down.

Now he was attacking me outside an emergency room.

The male paramedic knelt beside me on the concrete.

"Are you okay, ma'am?" the paramedic asked urgently.

"I need to protect my baby!" I wept out.

My heart pounded violently inside my aching chest ribs.

I felt a sharp contraction tighten around my stomach.

David tried to push past the paramedic once again.

"She disrespected my family!" David screamed at staff.

"She owes my son an apology right now!"

The nurse stepped between David and my trembling body.

"Step back right now, sir!" the nurse ordered.

"This is an emergency medical transport zone!"

Michael finally took one slow step forward toward us.

He adjusted his navy polo collar with cold composure.

His eyes fixed on me with terrifying calculated threat.

I realized this was not just a family argument.

They had brought me here for a sinister reason.
