Chapter 10 - The Lawyer's Ambush

At ten o'clock that evening, a knock sounded.
The door opened, and a man in suit entered.
He carried an official leather document folder in hand.
It was Arthur Vance, David's high-priced corporate defense attorney.
Two police officers followed him into my private room.
Arthur Vance wore an arrogant, patronizing smirk on face.
"Good evening, Emily," Arthur spoke with smooth venom.
"I am here as representative for the Vance estate."
Agent Harris stood up from his chair, hand on gun.
"You have no authorization to be in this room, Arthur."
Arthur Vance pulled an official white court paper out.
He held the paper up for Agent Harris to see.
"I have a emergency injunction signed by Judge Miller."
"A state court order granting emergency temporary guardianship."
"Guardianship transferred to David's sister, Victoria Vance."
My heart plummeted into a dark, bottomless pit terror.
Victoria Vance was David's ruthless, cold-hearted older sister.
She ran their private overseas medical investment branch firm.
"The judge ruled Emily is currently incapacitated by drugs."
Arthur Vance explained, his voice dripping with fake concern.
"The toxicology report proves she has heavy sedatives in blood."
"Therefore, she cannot legally claim her mother's trust."
"We are transferring her to Victoria's private facility now."
"The transport ambulance is waiting in the basement bay."
I sat up in bed, my eyes burning with hatred.
"You bribed Judge Miller!" I screamed at lawyer.
"Michael was the one who poisoned my morning tea!"
Arthur Vance chuckled softly, adjusting his silk gold tie.
"Can you prove Michael gave you that tea, Emily?"
"There are no security cameras inside your private kitchen."
"The law sees a drug-addicted mother unfit for care."
"By midnight, Victoria will sign the trust transfer papers."
The two police officers stepped toward my hospital bed.
They were local county officers under David's political payroll.
"Ma'am, please step onto the transport gurney quietly."
The officer said, reaching for my blanket cover.
Agent Harris drew his federal sidearm with lightning speed.
He pointed the heavy black barrel at officer's chest.

"Touch her, and you enter federal custody for treason."
