Chapter 13 - The Courthouse Reckoning

Three months passed quickly in the city of Boston.

My sweet baby girl Lily was born healthy and strong.

She had bright hazel eyes and soft blonde hair locks.

I held her tightly in my arms every single day.

Today was the formal federal indictment trial hearing day.

The grand marble courthouse was packed with news reporters.

National news cameras flashed continuously across the grand plaza.

The headline scrolled across millions of television screens nationwide:

"Billionaire Pharmaceutical Family Indicted For Organ Harvesting Plot."

I walked down the marble corridor holding baby Lily.

I wore a crisp white blazer and dark trousers today.

I looked strong, confident, and completely restored in spirit.

Michael, David, and Doctor Vance were led into hallway.

They wore bright orange prison jumpsuits and heavy chains.

Handcuffs and leg irons clattered against the marble floor.

Their faces looked old, sunken, and utterly defeated today.

Their corporate empire was completely liquidated by federal government.

All their private assets were seized to pay victims.

Michael looked up and saw me holding our baby girl.

Tears welled up in his dark, hollow eyes now.

"Emily... please let me see my daughter," Michael begged.

His voice was weak, pathetic, and completely broken down.

"I am her father... I deserve to hold her once."

I stopped walking and looked him straight in eyes.

My expression was granite cold, without a single emotion.

"You lost the right to be her father, Michael."

I stated, my voice echoing clearly across the corridor.

"You tried to sell her life for corporate cash."

"She will never know your name or your face."

"She will grow up knowing her mother protected her."

David spat on the floor, glaring up at me bitterly.

"You destroyed three generations of Vance legacy!" David yelled.

"You are a worthless nobody who got lucky today!"

I looked down at the ruined old patriarch calmly.

"Greed destroyed your family legacy, David," I replied.

"Not me."

The federal marshals shoved them into the court doors.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind their backs.

They faced mandatory life sentences without possibility parole.

They would spend the rest of their lives in cells.
