Chapter 14 - The Fresh Start

I walked out of the federal courthouse onto steps.

Bright afternoon sunshine bathed the stone plaza area below.

Fresh cool air filled my lungs as I smiled brightly.

Agent Harris and Doctor Miller stood waiting near car.

They offered warm smiles as I approached their position.

"You did an amazing job today, Emily," Harris said.

"Justice was served for you and little Lily."

"Thank you for believing me from start, Agent," I.

I stepped into my new private vehicle with Lily.

We drove to our new home near the ocean coast.

A beautiful three-story house surrounded by green trees.

I had purchased the home using my mother's trust.

It was a peaceful sanctuary far away from city danger.

Two weeks passed quietly in our new coastal home.

Every morning I woke up to the sound waves.

I fed baby Lily and walked along the sandy beach.

Color and full strength returned to my cheeks daily.

I felt a deep sense of peace inside heart.

My daughter was growing up surrounded by pure love.

Tonight was a warm, quiet evening in late summer.

I sat on my front porch porch rocking chair.

Lily was fast asleep in her wooden crib inside.

The sunset painted the sky in shades pink gold.

A mail courier van pulled up to my driveway.

The driver stepped out, holding a small brown package.

"Delivery for Mrs. Emily Vance," the driver called.

I walked down porch steps, signing the digital pad.

"Thank you," I said, taking the small box.

The package had no return address listed on label.

I walked back to the porch, opening tape.
