Chapter 26 - The Courtroom

Evan accepted responsibility rather than forcing Margaret through a full trial.

The court reviewed the recording, medical report, and witness statements.

He received probation, mandatory counseling, community service, and restrictions preventing him from contacting Margaret without permission.

The judge addressed him directly.

“You treated another person’s terror as entertainment.”

Evan lowered his head.

Daniel and Denise attended.

Neither looked at Margaret.

Separate civil proceedings addressed the attempted financial coercion.

Daniel’s unauthorized property claims and false petition draft were entered into evidence.

Denise faced liability for misuse of confidential documents and the deceptive online post.

No one went to prison over the property plan.

But they lost access, credibility, money, and the protection secrecy once gave them.

The trust formally excluded Daniel, Denise, and Evan from any ownership or management interest in the lake estate.
