Chapter 10 - The Bride Who Refused to Kneel
Richard entered the bridal suite and closed the door.
The guards positioned themselves beside Adrian.
Victor took the laptop.
Grant picked up the necklace.
“You were always too curious,” he told Evelyn.
“You were always too careless,” she replied.
Grant’s smile faded.
Richard pointed at the floor.
“Kneel and apologize.”
Evelyn looked at him.
“For what?”
“For betraying your blood.”
“You sold me to a stranger.”
“To save this family.”
“You saved yourself.”
Richard raised his hand.
Adrian stepped between them.
One guard pressed a weapon into Adrian’s back.
Richard’s face twisted.
“You came into my home wearing a dead man’s grievance.”
“You stole my father’s life.”
“Your father was weak.”
Adrian lunged, but the guards restrained him.
Richard turned to Evelyn again.
“You will tell the board that Alden Whitmore deceived us. You will claim he forced you to steal company records.”
“And if I refuse?”
Grant held up the necklace.
“Grandmother Rose disappears permanently.”
Evelyn’s breath caught.
Grant believed Rose was still at the clinic.
He did not know she had been moved to a protected hospital under federal supervision.
But Evelyn allowed fear to show.
“Don’t touch her.”
“Kneel.”
Evelyn slowly lowered herself.
Richard smiled.
Adrian stared at her, horrified.
Then Evelyn placed one hand against the floor.
Her wedding ring touched a tiny transmitter hidden beneath the carpet.
A green light flashed once.
Downstairs, every screen in the ballroom turned on.
The live camera feed from the bridal suite appeared before two hundred wedding guests, board members, reporters, and employees.
Richard’s voice echoed through the hotel.
“You will claim he forced you to steal company records.”
Grant spun toward the chandelier camera.
Victor rushed to disconnect it.
But the broadcast was not coming from their camera.
It was coming from Evelyn’s ring.
She rose from the floor.
“I wasn’t kneeling,” she said. “I was turning on the truth.”
