Chapter 10 - Freeze Every Account
“Get up,” Daniel ordered.
Emily remained seated on the bed.
Her breathing shook, but her voice did not.
“What happens after I sign?”
“You leave.”
“With what?”
“Whatever clothes my mother packs.”
Lorraine smiled from the doorway.
“This is his house.”
Emily looked at Daniel.
“The house was purchased by my family trust.”
“The deed is in my company’s name now.”
“You forged it.”
His eyes narrowed.
“You cannot prove that.”
The blue light blinked again.
Emily gripped the bedsheet.
Daniel leaned forward, lifting one arm as if he might strike her a second time.
“No more delays. You approve the transfer, sign the confession, and disappear.”
Rachel watched the scene from her dark office.
On another screen, federal investigators monitored the scheduled wire.
Daniel’s forged authorization had entered the banking system.
Rachel called the bank’s fraud director.
“The account holder is being threatened on live video. Freeze every Carter Technologies account connected to Daniel Whitmore or Whitmore Family Consulting.”
The director hesitated.
Rachel forwarded the emergency court order she had secured using Samuel’s trust documents and Victor’s audit.
“Do it now.”
One by one, the accounts locked.
In the bedroom, Daniel’s phone vibrated.
He ignored it.
Then it vibrated again.
Lorraine checked her own phone.
Her face changed.
“Daniel.”
“What?”
“The family account is frozen.”
He grabbed his phone.
Company operating account: suspended.
Investment account: suspended.
International wire: blocked.
Daniel stumbled toward the nightstand.
“No.”
Another notification appeared.
ACCESS TO CARTER TECHNOLOGIES REVOKED.
Lorraine’s cold expression collapsed.
Daniel turned toward Emily.
“What did you do?”
Emily still had tears on her face.
But she no longer looked afraid.
“I told you. I’m not alone.”
Sirens approached outside.
Daniel looked toward the window.
Two black federal vehicles stopped in front of the house.
Lorraine backed away from the doorway.
Daniel reached for the folder containing the forged documents.
He intended to destroy them.
