Six months later, Claire returned to the mansion for the final time.
The property had been awarded to her through the civil settlement because Daniel used trust funds to finance renovations and hide stolen assets.
She stood in the living room where the police had arrested him.
The broken lamp was gone.
The marble floor had been cleaned.
The sofa remained.
For a moment, Claire could still hear his voice.
No one will believe you.
Emily stood beside her.
“You don’t have to keep this place.”
“I know.”
Claire walked through the hallway.
She passed the study.
