The jury deliberated for two days.
Claire barely slept.

“You saw suffering and treated it as an opportunity,” the judge told her.
Daniel’s sentencing took place one month later.
The prosecution presented victim-impact statements.
Laura spoke first.

Then Claire stood.
She carried no notes.
“You told me nobody would believe me,” she said.
Daniel stared straight ahead.
“You were right for a long time. Not because I was lying, but because you built your reputation before I could tell the truth.”
She paused.
“But reputation is not character.”
Daniel’s hands tightened.
“You made me think fear was proof that I was weak.”
Claire’s voice grew steadier.
“It was proof that I understood the danger.”
The judge sentenced Daniel to decades in prison, citing his pattern of abuse, deliberate medical fraud, financial motives, and threat in open court.
He was ordered to return stolen funds, surrender hidden assets, and pay restitution.
His company removed his name from its foundation.
The mansion was seized pending civil judgment.
Daniel had built his life around control.
