Chapter 7 - THE MOMENT HE LOST CONTROL

David yanked Maya downward.

Her cry cut through the dining room.

“Stay down.”

The table tilted as her hands struck it.

Wine spread across the white cloth like a dark stain.

Rebecca did not move to help.

“A wife learns respect,” she said.

That was when Elena called 911.

David had expected pleading.

He expected Elena to whisper his name and remind him that people were watching.

He expected her to help hide the violence to protect Maya from gossip.

Instead, Elena placed the phone where everyone could see it.

“Take your hand off her.”

Marcus Hale saw the assault through the security monitor at the host stand.

He had managed the Bellweather for eleven years.

David often spoke to him as though he were furniture.

That night, Marcus made a decision.

“Secure every camera file,” he told the assistant manager. “Nothing gets deleted.”

He locked the rear employee exit.

Leah, the server, recorded David’s face as he looked around the room and realized strangers were filming him.

David released Maya.

Then he reached for the envelope.

Elena took it first.

“You won’t touch these papers.”

David whispered, “You have no idea what you’re destroying.”

Elena stared at him.

“I know exactly what I’m saving.”

Two police officers entered through the front doors.

David immediately changed his posture.

He straightened his jacket.

He lowered his voice.

“This is a private family misunderstanding.”

Marcus approached with a tablet displaying the security footage.

“No,” he said. “It happened in my dining room.”

Rebecca stood.

“My son was preventing his wife from injuring herself.”

Maya slowly lifted her face.

Red marks crossed her scalp and neck.

“I was trying to leave.”

The officers separated everyone.

As David was handcuffed, he looked at Maya with cold certainty.

“You’ll regret this when your mother’s secrets come out.”

Maya turned toward Elena.

“What secrets?”

For the first time that evening, Elena looked afraid.

👉 David’s threat revealed that Rebecca had been holding something over Elena—and Maya needed to know why her mother had stayed silent for so long.
