Chapter 15 - THE LAST THREAT

David stood outside the locked gate in the rain.
He looked nothing like the polished man from the fundraiser.
His suit was wrinkled.
His hair was wet.
His eyes moved constantly toward the police patrol car parked down the street.
Maya watched through the security monitor.
Elena called 911.
David pressed the intercom.
“Maya, I need five minutes.”
She did not answer.
“I know you’re listening.”
He held up a folder.
“If I go down, your father’s name goes with me.”
Maya activated the speaker.
“You mean the documents your mother forged?”
David’s face tightened.
“You think that letter changes anything? Your father knew our companies were connected. He made money from us.”
“He protected employees from your family’s fraud.”
“You don’t understand business.”
For years, those words had silenced her.
This time, they sounded empty.
David moved closer to the gate.
“I loved you.”
“You loved access.”
“I can fix this.”
“You pulled me down by my hair.”
“You pushed me.”
Maya stared at the screen.
Even alone in the rain, he could not say what he had done.
He could only rewrite it.
Police lights turned onto the street.
David’s voice became desperate.
“Tell them you invited me.”
“No.”
“You’re my wife.”
“That never made me your property.”
He threw the folder over the gate.
Then he tried to run.
Officers stopped him before he reached his car.
Inside the folder, investigators found copies of confidential witness statements.
Someone had been feeding David information from the case.
Phone records led to a private investigator hired by Rebecca.
The investigator had followed Maya, photographed Elena’s home and contacted restaurant employees.
One employee had accepted money.
It was not Marcus.
May you like
It was the Bellweather’s assistant manager, who had access to the backup security server.
👉 David’s attempt to intimidate Maya exposed a witness-tampering scheme—and the assistant manager still possessed one hidden copy of the restaurant footage.
