Chapter 16 - THE CAMERA THEY MISSED

The assistant manager admitted Rebecca paid him to delete the main security files.

He believed he had succeeded.

What he did not know was that Marcus had activated an automatic cloud backup the moment he saw David grab Maya.

The backup contained three camera angles.

One showed the assault.

One recorded Rebecca nodding at David before he touched Maya.

The third faced the table from above.

It captured the papers beneath Maya’s plate.

It also recorded a conversation before Maya and Elena arrived.

Rebecca’s voice was clear.

“If she refuses, don’t let her walk away.”

David asked, “What do you expect me to do?”

“Remind her what happens when she humiliates you.”

David replied, “Elena may call someone.”

Rebecca laughed.

“She cares too much about appearances.”

The recording proved premeditated coercion.

Combined with the forged medical evaluation, false loan application and witness intimidation, the case became much larger than domestic assault.

Prosecutors charged David with assault, financial fraud, coercion, identity theft and witness tampering.

Rebecca faced conspiracy, forgery, obstruction, attempted evidence destruction and financial crimes.

Their attorneys tried to negotiate quietly.

Maya refused any agreement requiring her silence.

“I don’t need the harshest sentence,” she told prosecutors. “But I will not sign a confidentiality agreement that protects what they did.”

A civil court formally removed Langford Dining Group from the Bellweather.

The independent audit expanded to all six restaurants.

Three were saved under new management.

Two were sold to pay employees and creditors.

One closed because the building was unsafe.

The glamorous empire Rebecca had used to control people disappeared piece by piece.

Before trial, Rebecca requested a private meeting with Maya.

She claimed she wanted to apologize.

Maya agreed only if Charles, Elena and a court mediator attended.

Rebecca entered the room without pearls or a designer suit.

But the moment she sat down, Maya saw that she had not come to apologize.

👉 Rebecca had lost her company and freedom, yet she still believed she possessed one weapon powerful enough to divide Maya from Elena.
