Chapter 26 - JESSICA AT ROBINSON HOUSE
Jessica completed community service at Robinson House.
At first, several residents recognized her from the footage.
Some refused her help.
She accepted that.
She cleaned kitchens.
Organized donated clothing.
Watched children while mothers attended court hearings.
One evening, a woman arrived carrying a cashier’s check from an insurance settlement.
She was afraid to enter a bank.
Jessica sat with her and explained verification procedures.
The woman asked:
“How do I know they won’t think I stole it?”
Jessica had no comforting lie.
“You don’t. But you have rights, and I’ll go with you.”
They entered a different branch the next morning.
The deposit was processed correctly.
Jessica later told Martha.
Martha replied:
May you like
“Good.”
That single word meant more to Jessica than forgiveness would have.
