Chapter 23 - ALEXANDER’S FAILURE

Alexander spent months examining how Daniel rose through the company.
Every performance review praised profitability.
Few mentioned complaints.
Regional leaders received bonuses tied to branch growth.
Daniel learned that cruelty hidden behind numbers could look like excellence.
Alexander had approved that bonus system.

“I created the incentive.”
“You created one condition,” she said. “Daniel created choices within it.”
“That sounds like you are protecting me.”
“It is the opposite. I am telling you exactly what belongs to you.”
Alexander removed the bonus structure.
He tied executive compensation to verified customer outcomes, complaint resolution and employee reporting safety.
Several senior managers resigned.
