Chapter 20 - MARTHA RETURNS TO THE COUNTER
Martha returned on reopening day without telling Alexander.
She wore the brown coat.
Carried the old purse.
Used the public entrance.
A new teller greeted her.
“Good afternoon. How can I help you?”
Martha placed a twenty-dollar check on the counter.
“I’d like to deposit this.”
The teller examined the check, scanned her identification and followed standard verification.
No recognition.
No special phone call.
No sudden deference.
The transaction took four minutes.
“Is there anything else I can help you with, Ms. Robinson?”
“No, thank you.”
Martha left satisfied.
