Chapter 1 - THE KICK THAT SILENCED THE BANK

Daniel Thompson planted his left foot on the polished marble floor and drove his right shoe into the lower front of Martha Robinson’s worn brown coat.
The impact knocked the sixty-eight-year-old woman backward.
Her heel slipped.
Her shoulder struck the reinforced glass partition with a violent thud.
The glass trembled but did not break.
