Chapter 18 - DANIEL IN COURT
Daniel was charged with assault.
His attorney argued that Martha had resisted removal and that the kick was a defensive action.
The security footage destroyed that claim.
Martha sat in court wearing the same brown coat.
Reporters noticed.
They assumed it was symbolic.
The truth was simpler.
She liked the coat.
Daniel pleaded not guilty at first.
Then former employees testified.
Customers described profiling.
Financial records exposed the incentive scheme.
His private messages showed contemptuous language about clients.
One message referred to Martha as “street trash” before he had checked her identification.
The prosecutor read it aloud.
Daniel finally accepted a plea agreement.
He pleaded guilty to assault and falsification of internal banking records.
He received jail time, probation and a permanent ban from managing financial institutions.
Before sentencing, he turned toward Martha.
“I destroyed my life in fifteen seconds.”
Martha looked at him.
“No. The camera captured fifteen seconds. Your choices began long before that.”
The judge agreed.
