Chapter 9 - THE CONFESSION BEHIND THE BALLROOM DOOR

Ethan showed Samuel the contract.

Samuel advised him not to confront Marcus yet.

“We need proof he knows the custody story is false and intends to coerce Rebecca.”

So Ethan continued pretending.

Marcus invited him to inspect the ballroom before the graduation party.

Dana joined them.

Rebecca was attending Ethan’s final university ceremony and was not present.

While workers arranged pastel roses and a large congratulations banner, Marcus explained the plan.

During dinner, he would announce that Dana was rejoining the family.

Then he would tell the guests Rebecca had never truly been Ethan’s mother.

Ethan forced himself to remain calm.

“Why say it publicly?”

“Because she’ll make a scene if we do it privately.”

Dana laughed.

“Rebecca hates embarrassment. She’ll go quiet.”

Marcus lowered his voice.

“Once I call her the nanny in front of everyone, she’ll be too humiliated to fight the settlement.”

The recorder inside Ethan’s shirt captured every word.

Marcus continued.

He planned to present the divorce papers and share transfer after the cake ceremony.

Ethan would sign the trust proxy.

Dana would stand beside Marcus.

Rebecca would be surrounded by executives and relatives who believed Marcus controlled the company.

“She’ll think she has no choice,” Marcus said.

“What if she refuses?” Ethan asked.

Marcus smiled.

“Then I remind her she has no legal claim to you.”

Ethan’s hands clenched.

Dana added, “Once the divorce is filed, we make sure Rebecca doesn’t attend family events anymore. Clean break.”

Ethan looked directly at her.

“You think I’d agree to that?”

Dana touched his arm.

“You’ll understand once you experience what a real mother feels like.”

Ethan stepped away.

He sent the recording to Samuel.

Then he sent it to Rebecca’s secure phone with one message:

Please trust me. Do not cancel the party.

Rebecca called immediately.

“I won’t let them use your graduation for this.”

“They already are.”

“I can leave before it happens.”

“No,” Ethan said. “You have spent twenty years standing beside me.”

His voice broke.

May you like

“Let me stand beside you once.”

👉 Ethan now had Marcus’s confession, but Rebecca had discovered a second betrayal that could turn the family scheme into a criminal case.
