Before sentencing, investigators returned Emily’s repaired handbag.
Inside the lining, they found one final audio fragment.
It had never transmitted.
The recording came from the moment after Emily fell outside the mansion.
Brad knelt beside her.
For several seconds, he begged his mother to call for help.
Mrs. Gable refused.
Brad said, “She could die.”
Mrs. Gable answered:
“Then the company becomes easier to control.”
Brad remained silent.
Then he helped lift Emily into the vehicle.
Emily listened once.
She had wondered for months whether Brad had ever tried to save her.
The recording gave her an answer more complicated than she wanted.
He had hesitated.
Then chosen himself.
She archived the file.
