Chapter 22 - Brad Takes the Stand
Brad testified against his mother.
He admitted he began forging Halcyon documents months before the party.
He believed Emily would eventually sign because she loved him.
When she refused, Mrs. Gable escalated the plan.
Brad described the moment outside the mansion.
Emily tried to leave.
He grabbed her bag.
His mother lifted the club.
Brad could have released Emily.
He did not.
He wanted the evidence back.
The club struck.
Emily fell.
Brad froze.
Then he helped place her in Vane’s vehicle.
The prosecutor asked why he did not call an ambulance.
Brad looked toward Emily.
She attended from the back of the courtroom with her shoulder supported beneath her jacket.
“I was afraid of losing everything.”
Emily showed no reaction.
The prosecutor asked:
“What did you lose?”
May you like
Brad answered:
“Everything.”
