Chapter 28 - Emily Returns to Halcyon

Eight months after the assault, Emily returned to company headquarters.

Employees gathered in the lobby.

No music.

No staged celebration.

She did not want applause.

She wanted accountability.

She announced a new governance system.

No executive could control emergency voting alone.

Founder signatures required independent verification.

Medical incapacity claims required multiple outside evaluations.

Whistleblowers received direct access to the board.

Brad had exploited trust concentrated in one person.

Emily distributed it.

Her first major product after returning was a secure dead-man transmission system.

Evidence would send automatically if a user failed to cancel an emergency trigger.

The system was named Margaret.

Margaret pretended to disapprove.

Privately, she cried.
