Chapter 10 - Emily’s Live Signal

Margaret’s forensic contact discovered a weak signal connected to Emily’s hidden recorder.

The device had transmitted intermittently since the previous night.

The newest signal came from Vane’s moving SUV.

Emily was alive.

The signal weakened near an abandoned country club north of the mansion.

Brad recognized the location.

His family owned it through a shell company.

Mrs. Gable claimed she had never heard of it.

One of the bankers contradicted her.

He had processed renovation loans for the property.

The country club contained underground storage areas once used for wine.

Margaret sent the coordinates.

Police units moved toward the site.

Brad suddenly crossed the ballroom toward the breaker panel.

Margaret blocked him.

“I need to call Cole.”

“You had hours.”

“He won’t listen to police.”

“Why would he listen to you?”

Brad’s expression changed.

“Because he thinks Emily killed his brother.”

Margaret stared at him.

Brad explained that Halcyon had exposed a procurement fraud two years earlier.

Cole’s brother went to prison and died there.

Cole blamed Emily.

Mrs. Gable hired him anyway because his loyalty could be purchased through revenge.

Margaret finally understood.

Cole had not taken Emily to protect the Gables.

He had taken her for himself.

And the evidence transmission might make him believe he had nothing left to lose.
