Chapter 26 - Jessica’s New Work
Jessica once planned to build a luxury event company using Voss family connections.
After the trial, she wanted nothing connected to elite galas.
She began volunteering with families affected by coercive relationships and financial manipulation.
At first, people recognized her from the wedding footage.
Some called her foolish.
Others blamed her for not believing Rachel sooner.
Jessica did not defend herself with excuses.
“I ignored warnings because the truth threatened the life I wanted.”
That honesty made people listen.
She later created a program helping young adults identify relationship-based financial control.
Rachel advised her privately but refused to turn Black Echo methods into public fear.
“Not everyone is an operative,” she reminded Jessica.
“No. Some people are just controlling.”
“That can still be dangerous.”
The sisters learned from each other.
Rachel understood that secrecy could resemble manipulation even when motivated by protection.
Jessica understood that charm and status were not evidence of safety.
Linda joined the program after completing counseling.
She spoke about how fear encouraged families to hide problems in order to preserve appearances.
The three women appeared together only once.
A reporter asked Rachel whether she had forgiven them.
Rachel answered:
“Forgiveness is not a public performance.”
Jessica smiled slightly.
That was the most Rachel answer possible.
Their relationship did not become perfect.
They argued.
Jessica still interrupted.
Rachel still disappeared emotionally under stress.
