Chapter 15 - The Father’s Confession

Vale contacted the hospital directly.

He demanded that Richard come to the factory alone.

Richard agreed before Rachel could stop him.

“There is something I never told you,” he said.

Twenty-six years earlier, before Rachel was born, Richard and Vale developed a secure communications component for the military.

Vale secretly sold copies overseas.

Richard discovered it.

Instead of reporting him, he accepted money and remained silent.

The profits built the Cole factory.

Years later, Vale returned and demanded access to new designs.

Richard complied because exposing Vale would expose his own crime.

Every success the family celebrated had been built on that first silence.

Rachel stared at her father.

“You let us believe you were trapped.”

“I became trapped.”

“No. You entered willingly and stayed because it paid.”

Linda sat beside him, devastated.

She had not known the full story.

Richard intended to confess publicly and trade himself for the workers.

Rachel told him Vale would kill him.

“Maybe I deserve that.”

“This isn’t about what you deserve. It’s about what Vale needs.”

Vale needed Richard’s original engineering code to fully activate the blackout system.

Richard had memorized it.

The ransom demand was not about surrender.

It was about completion.

Rachel ordered agents to detain her father.

Richard did not resist.

For the first time, he accepted that his guilt did not grant him control over the solution.

Meanwhile, Jessica and the Black Echo team remained trapped beneath the factory.

Their communication feed returned for three seconds.

Jessica whispered:

“Evan is helping us.”

Then the line died again.

May you like

Rachel did not know whether Evan had changed sides.

Or whether he was leading Jessica deeper into the trap.
