Chapter 6 - The Application Evelyn Never Signed
Helena sent the trust records through an independent attorney.
The documents were clear.
The triplets would become beneficiaries at birth.
Neither parent could withdraw money.
All distributions would be approved by an independent trustee and paid directly for the children’s benefit.
Primary custody would not give Adrian control of the capital.
But someone had recently submitted a request to modify the trust’s administrative contact.
The request named Adrian as sole family representative.
It included Evelyn’s electronic signature.
She had never signed it.
Helena asked quietly, “Has he used your identification before?”
Evelyn thought about the property waiver.
The medical records.
The passwords Adrian insisted they share.
“I don’t know.”
“Come home.”
“I can’t travel this late in the pregnancy.”
“Then I will come to you.”
Evelyn panicked.
Adrian monitored the house.
If Helena arrived with attorneys and security, he would know Evelyn had discovered everything.
“I need time.”
“You are carrying three babies and living with a man forging your name.”
“I need proof.”
“You need safety.”
Evelyn heard her father’s voice in the background.
Robert wanted the call placed on speaker.
“Evelyn,” he said, “the trust application is enough for an emergency review.”
“It proves someone used my signature. It doesn’t prove Adrian did it.”
“Who else benefits?”
“Celeste.”
Robert became quiet.
Evelyn had not told them about the affair.
Helena asked, “Who is Celeste?”
Evelyn closed her eyes.
“My husband’s consultant.”
Her mother understood immediately.
“Is she living in the house?”
“Not officially.”
“Has Adrian hurt you?”
“No.”
At that point, he had never struck her.
He had blocked doors.
Taken her phone.
Gripped her arm once.
But Evelyn did not call those things violence.
Not yet.
Robert agreed to wait forty-eight hours before confronting Adrian.
During that time, the Bennett attorneys would quietly review the house, the trust application and Adrian’s company accounts.
The review uncovered two alarming facts.
First, the Beverly Hills home belonged entirely to Evelyn’s trust.
Second, Adrian had already filed a deed attempting to transfer it to Celeste.
The deed used Evelyn’s forged authorization.
Robert wanted the transfer frozen immediately.
Evelyn asked him to delay.
“If he learns we caught it, he’ll hide the custody plan.”
Robert’s anger sharpened.
“You are risking yourself to build a case.”
“I’m trying to protect the babies.”
“Then let us protect you.”
Evelyn looked toward the nursery Adrian had not entered in weeks.
“Give me until they’re born.”
Robert reluctantly agreed.
But he ordered the attorneys to prepare emergency freezes.
