Robert placed Evelyn’s call on speaker.
The Bennett family attorney heard Adrian say, “Sign, or you’ll leave without the children.”
Helena heard Celeste tell Evelyn that no court would trust a mother who “became unstable after birth.”
Robert’s face remained calm.
His hands did not.
He opened the emergency authorization file.
The property freeze had been prepared.
The trust-contact application had been flagged.
Mercer Development Group’s credit agreements contained fraud protections because Bennett Strategic Partners had quietly provided rescue financing two years earlier.
Evelyn had not known that part.
When Adrian’s company began failing, Robert invested through independent funds to protect employees and prevent Evelyn’s household from collapsing.
He never told her because he feared she would see it as another attempt at control.
Now those contracts gave Bennett Strategic Partners the right to suspend accounts tied to forged personal guarantees.
The attorney activated the first order.
The transfer of the Beverly Hills house stopped.
The second order suspended Adrian’s authority over accounts connected to the fraudulent deed.
The third notified Mercer Development Group’s board of an emergency fraud review.
Helena called the hospital’s patient advocate.
“My daughter is being pressured to sign legal documents after emergency surgery.”
Hospital security was dispatched immediately.
Robert and Helena left with two attorneys.
Inside Evelyn’s room, Adrian’s phone vibrated again and again.
His bank requested identity verification.
The company’s general counsel demanded an explanation.
The title office confirmed the property transfer had been frozen.
Celeste opened her phone.
Her access to the house account had disappeared.
“What is happening?” she whispered.
Evelyn held the blanket over her abdomen.
“My parents are coming.”
Adrian grabbed the papers.
“You told them?”
“You forged my name.”
“You betrayed me.”
Evelyn looked at the triplets.
“No. I finally stopped protecting you.”
A nurse entered with the patient advocate and two security officers.
Adrian tried to order them out.
The advocate pointed toward the papers.
“Mrs. Mercer has not been medically cleared for legal decision-making discussions.”
“She is my wife.”
“She is our patient.”
Celeste moved toward the door.
Security stopped her long enough to verify her identity.
Then the family attorney arrived carrying the sealed file.
He placed it on the bedside table.
“Mr. Mercer, the property transfer is frozen. Your company accounts are under review, and all contact regarding the Bennett Children’s Trust must now go through counsel.”
Adrian stared at the words printed across the file.
