Chapter 5 - The Custody Story
Adrian began creating evidence before the triplets were born.
He told the housekeeper Evelyn slept all day.
He emailed the obstetrician’s office claiming she was depressed and refusing medical advice.
He photographed medication bottles without showing that they were prescribed for normal pregnancy complications.
Celeste helped him draft a timeline of “concerning behavior.”
Evelyn crying after a difficult appointment became emotional instability.
Evelyn refusing a large dinner became social withdrawal.
Evelyn asking Adrian where he spent the night became paranoia.
He also began recording arguments.
The videos always started after he provoked her.
In one, Evelyn shouted after finding Celeste’s earrings beneath their bed.
Adrian calmly said, “You’re frightening me.”
The recording did not include his earlier admission that Celeste had slept there.
Another video showed Evelyn throwing a folder onto a desk.
It did not show the forged property waiver inside it.
Adrian sent selected clips to a family-law attorney.
He described himself as a worried husband preparing for the possibility that his wife might become unsafe after delivery.
The attorney advised him that courts did not remove children based on edited arguments.
Adrian found another lawyer.
Celeste located a private custody consultant willing to prepare stronger documents.
The consultant drafted an agreement granting Adrian primary legal and physical custody.
It described Evelyn as medically fragile and voluntarily choosing limited contact while receiving treatment.
A second document allowed Adrian to make financial decisions for the babies.
A third authorized him to establish their primary residence in the Beverly Hills house.
All three required Evelyn’s signature.
Adrian planned to obtain it while she was exhausted and medicated after delivery.
He told Celeste the hospital was the perfect place.
“No witnesses who know us,” he said.
“Nurses are witnesses,” she replied.
“They see husbands bring paperwork every day.”
Celeste smiled.
“And your wife will be too weak to argue.”
Evelyn remained unaware of the full plan.
But she knew something was wrong.
At thirty-one weeks, she discovered that Adrian had requested copies of her psychiatric history.
There was almost nothing to find.
Years earlier, she had attended grief counseling after her grandmother’s death.
Adrian obtained those notes anyway.
He placed them beside the custody draft.
Evelyn photographed the file before he returned.
Then she did something she had avoided for years.
She called her mother.
Helena answered on the first ring.
“Evelyn?”
“I need to ask you about the grandchildren’s trust.”
Silence followed.
