Chapter 16 - The Camera They Tried to Blind
The employee was Marcus Lane, the Mercer Grand’s former security supervisor.
Vivian paid him $50,000 to create a ninety-minute camera outage during the reception.
He agreed because his wife needed an expensive medical procedure.
Then guilt overwhelmed him.
Instead of disabling the system, Marcus redirected the visible dashboard while allowing the backup server to continue recording.
Vivian believed the ballroom cameras were dark.
That was why she acted so openly beside the safe.
Marcus testified that Daniel knew about the plan.
Two hours before the ceremony, Daniel asked whether “the room would be private” after 10:00 p.m.
Marcus answered yes.
Daniel replied:
Good. If Claire makes this difficult, no one outside the family needs to see it.
Marcus kept the message.
The prosecution also recovered deleted texts between Daniel and Vivian.

Daniel sent one final response.
