Chapter 14 - The Lie About Her Father
Vivian requested a meeting through her attorney.
Naomi advised Claire not to attend.
Vivian claimed she had information about Arthur Ellison’s final year.
Claire agreed to a recorded meeting inside Naomi’s office.
Vivian entered without jewelry or makeup.
For the first time, she looked older than her power.
“Your father knew Daniel approached you,” she said.
Claire remained still.
“What does that mean?”
Vivian claimed Arthur had approved the relationship.
She produced a letter bearing his signature.
The letter described a future partnership between the Ellison and Mercer families.
It suggested marriage could stabilize both companies.
Claire’s face went cold.
“My father would never trade me for a business agreement.”
“Perhaps you did not know him as well as you believed.”
Naomi examined the letter.
The signature looked genuine.
The paper matched Arthur’s company stationery.
For several hours, Claire questioned everything.

Vivian had removed entire paragraphs and changed one sentence.

The date had also been changed.
Arthur wrote it before Claire ever met Daniel.
Vivian had taken a business proposal and transformed it into emotional evidence.
Claire returned to the conference room.
She placed the original beside Vivian’s version.
“You even forged my father’s intentions.”
Vivian looked at the pages.
Then at Claire.
“Arthur humiliated me when he rejected the hotel.”
“He rejected false numbers.”
“He told everyone I was incompetent.”
“He told you the truth privately.”
Vivian’s composure broke.
“My husband died believing I destroyed his family legacy.”
“So you decided to destroy mine?”
“I decided your father’s fortune should repair what he refused to save.”
Claire finally saw the entire story.
Vivian had not merely targeted wealth.
She had spent years turning wounded pride into a family mission.
Daniel inherited the mission and chose to continue it.
Claire stood.
“My father did not ruin your family. Your refusal to face the truth did.”
Vivian leaned forward.
“You think you’re different? Your company exists because people pay you to manufacture perfect days.”
Claire looked at the woman who helped turn her wedding into an assault.
“No. My company survives because when something goes wrong, we document it and protect the people involved.”
