Chapter 11 - The Trust Grant Tried to Borrow Against
Mercer Dynamics secured Grant’s office that night.
Investigators found a private folder inside his desk.
It did not concern the MX-9.
It concerned Emma.
Grant had discovered an old letter from Cross Family Trust Services among her tax papers.
He still did not understand that Julian managed the trust.
He believed Emma’s late mother had left her a modest inheritance.
The documents showed something larger.
Emma held a protected financial interest worth several million dollars.
Most of it consisted of nonvoting Mercer Dynamics shares inherited from her mother.
Emma had never touched the money.
She lived on her salary and allowed the trust income to support a medical scholarship fund.
Grant had photographed the documents without her knowledge.
Then he forged Emma’s signature on a marital-consent form.
He applied for a $2.4 million private loan to finance an outside company he planned to launch after receiving the promotion.
The loan application claimed Emma’s trust distributions would guarantee repayment.
Grant had not received the money yet.
The lender was waiting for final identity verification.
The dinner with Julian was supposed to provide something Grant needed.

Grant planned to present the image as evidence that the Cross family supported the investment.
He expected Emma to sign additional papers after the dinner.
If she refused, he had prepared a psychiatric evaluation request claiming she had become unstable and financially reckless.
Alicia showed Emma the draft.
Grant described her as confused, impulsive, and unable to manage inherited assets.
He cited the injuries he had caused as examples of her “frequent accidents.”
Emma read the sentence twice.
The bruises had not merely been something Grant wanted hidden.
He intended to use them to create a record of incompetence.
Julian sat beside her.
“I should have known.”
“You couldn’t know what I refused to tell you.”
“I should have asked more.”
Emma closed the folder.
“So should he.”
The lender canceled the application and reported the forged documents.
Police expanded the investigation to include identity theft and attempted financial fraud.
Grant’s attorney released a statement claiming the forms were part of ordinary marital planning.
Then forensic examiners recovered an audio note Grant had recorded for himself.
Once I have the vice presidency, Emma signs or I petition for control. Julian Cross won’t interfere with a private marriage.
Grant’s own voice exposed the full plan.
