Chapter 9 - The Night They Forced Her Hand

Trevor dragged Brooke away from the front door.
She struck the edge of a console table and fell onto one knee.
Pain shot through her leg.
Victoria picked up the transfer documents before they slid from the table.
“Stop fighting,” she said. “You are making this worse.”
Brooke tried to stand.
Trevor shoved her back onto the sofa.
“You will sign.”
“Ethan will know.”
“He will see his own approvals.”
“You forged them.”
Trevor leaned close.
“Prove it.”
The old phone recorded every word from inside Brooke’s nightgown.
Victoria placed the signature page on the coffee table.
“You are not losing anything,” she said. “You entered this marriage with nothing.”
Brooke looked at her.
“That is what this is really about.”
“It is about preserving what our family built.”
“Ethan owns the controlling shares.”
“My husband built that company.”
“And left control to Ethan because he did not trust Trevor.”
Trevor slapped the pen onto the table.
“Sign it.”
Brooke refused.
He seized her upper arm.
Victoria held the paper in place.
Brooke fought to pull away.
Trevor twisted her wrist until she cried out.
The pen moved across the signature line in a jagged stroke.
Brooke’s name appeared.
Not because she consented.
Because Trevor forced her hand.
He released her.
She collapsed against the sofa.
Victoria examined the page.
“It looks terrible.”
“The notary only needs a signature,” Trevor said.
“What about Ethan’s original?”
Trevor took another page.
He signed Ethan’s name with practiced movements.
Brooke watched him.
“I didn’t sign alone,” she whispered.
Trevor looked up.
“No. But you’ll be the only one anyone blames.”
He used Ethan’s old smartwatch to approve the electronic upload.
Then he placed the watch inside the military jacket.
Victoria collected the papers.
“Clean yourself up before the staff arrives tomorrow.”
Brooke looked down.
Bruises were forming across her arms and leg.
Trevor followed her gaze.
“You fell.”
Brooke did not answer.
Victoria crouched in front of her.
“When Ethan comes home, he will see a grieving, unstable wife who signed documents she did not understand and injured herself during a breakdown.”
She lifted Brooke’s chin.
“And if you accuse us, we will show him months of evidence proving you cannot be trusted.”
Brooke waited until they left the room.
Then she removed the old phone.
The recording had saved.
But its battery was down to nine percent.

The transfer was scheduled to clear in forty-eight hours.
👉 Brooke had the truth in her hand, but she needed to get it beyond the penthouse before Trevor discovered the phone.
