Chapter 15 - The File Meant to Silence Her
Victoria’s attorney submitted a request claiming Brooke was mentally incapable of giving reliable testimony.
Attached was a thick medical file.
It described panic attacks, delusions, self-harm and violent outbursts.
Most of it was false.
Some documents contained Brooke’s real medical history from the miscarriage.
Private grief counseling notes had been removed from a clinic without permission.
Trevor’s team mixed those records with fabricated reports.
The goal was simple.
Take genuine pain and use it to make every future accusation appear unreliable.
Brooke read the file in the attorney’s office.
Her hands became cold.
“They took the worst weeks of my life and rewrote them.”
Ethan sat beside her.
“You do not have to read more.”
“Yes, I do.”
She continued.
A forged note claimed Brooke had admitted to bruising herself.
Another stated she believed Ethan’s family was stealing from her because of “paranoid fixation.”
The building physician had signed one report without examining her.
Investigators questioned him.
He admitted Victoria had described Brooke’s behavior and asked him to prepare an informal recommendation.
He never expected it to be used in court.
The clinic employee who released Brooke’s records had received money from Mercury.
The false file became additional evidence of conspiracy, privacy violations and witness intimidation.
Still, Brooke feared a courtroom would believe the polished documents before believing her.
The prosecutor arranged an independent evaluation.
Brooke met with a trauma specialist over several sessions.
The specialist concluded that Brooke showed symptoms consistent with prolonged coercive control and assault.
She was not delusional.
Her fear had been reasonable.
Her memory remained clear.
At the preliminary hearing, Victoria’s attorney questioned Brooke aggressively.
“You suffered significant emotional distress before these events, correct?”
“Yes.”
“You were grieving?”
“Yes.”
“You argued with members of the household?”
“I argued when they prevented me from calling my husband and tried to steal his company.”
The attorney held up a photograph of Brooke crying.
“Does this appear emotionally stable?”
Brooke looked at the image.
“It appears human.”
The courtroom became silent.
The attorney tried again.
“Did you sign the Mercury consent form?”
“My hand wrote the name while Trevor twisted my wrist.”
“Yet your voice on the notary video says you understood.”
“Victoria stood behind the camera. Trevor was holding the old watch they used to impersonate Ethan. I understood that refusing again would get me hurt.”
The prosecutor played the hidden recording.
Trevor’s threats filled the courtroom.
Victoria lowered her head.
The psychiatric argument collapsed.
