Chapter 7 - THE WHISPER BEFORE THE SCISSORS

The gala began beneath music and champagne.
Daniel’s arrival was delayed by a security problem on the highway.
Claire used every minute.
She introduced herself as the future Mrs. Carver.
She allowed guests to discuss how the Beaumont marriage would civilize Daniel’s dangerous family.
Hannah moved between tables with a tray.
Several guests recognized her pregnancy and offered seats.
Claire sent staff to remove every chair from the service corridor.
At eight forty-five, Victor arrived.
He leaned toward Claire.
“Finish this quietly.”
“She won’t leave quietly.”
“Then make her ashamed enough to disappear.”
Claire crossed the ballroom and deliberately knocked a champagne glass from Hannah’s tray.
The glass shattered.
She accused Hannah of drinking while working.
Hannah denied it.
Claire raised her voice until guests began watching.
“This woman has spent months using her pregnancy to avoid work.”
Hannah tried to walk away.
Two Beaumont guards blocked her.
Martin moved toward them, but Victor stopped him.
Claire grabbed Hannah’s hair.
The guests gasped.
“Let me go,” Hannah said.
“You want everyone to see you?”
Claire dragged her into the center of the room.
Hannah dropped to her knees to protect her balance and baby.
Claire bent near her ear.
“If you tell Daniel, your child will not survive long enough to inherit anything.”
The hidden camera above the chandelier captured every word.
Claire picked up the scissors.
Martin reached for his phone.
The front security gate signaled Daniel’s arrival.
Claire did not hear it.
She pulled Hannah’s hair tight.
“Now everyone will understand why women like you should never reach above their place.”
The scissors closed.
A long piece of Hannah’s hair fell onto the marble.
Some guests laughed because Claire laughed first.
Others remained silent because Victor Beaumont was watching.
Hannah covered her stomach.
Claire raised the severed hair.
“Now you look like the help.”
The front doors opened.
Daniel entered.
The atmosphere changed before anyone spoke.
He saw Hannah kneeling.
He saw Claire’s hand in her hair.
He saw the scissors.
The man who had entered expecting to sign a marriage alliance disappeared behind Daniel’s expression.
“Put it down.”
Claire believed she could explain.
Then the ultrasound fell from Hannah’s pocket.

And every plan Victor had made began collapsing on the marble floor.
👉 Daniel had returned before the merger was signed—but saving Hannah required uncovering how deeply the Beaumonts had already entered his home.
