Chapter 15 - THE DEATH THAT BUILT THE ALLIANCE
Victor Beaumont had arranged the death of Daniel’s younger brother, Nicholas.
Three years earlier, Nicholas opposed the Beaumont merger.
He discovered Victor was using Carver shipping companies to move illegal weapons.
Nicholas planned to tell Daniel.
His car crashed before the meeting.
The brakes had been cut.
Daniel believed a rival family was responsible.

Daniel gave prosecutors the files first.

The agreement required restitution, complete withdrawal from criminal enterprises, and years of monitored cooperation.
He would not go to prison if he fulfilled strict conditions and proved he had already been dismantling the illegal network before Hannah’s assault.
The legitimate Carver companies entered court supervision.
Employees retained their jobs.
The estate became subject to forfeiture review.
Daniel told Hannah before the news became public.
“You may lose the home you grew up in.”
Hannah looked around her hospital room.
“The estate stopped feeling like home when Claire cut my hair and people laughed.”
“I may lose my name.”
“You will still be our daughter’s father.”
Daniel sat quietly.
He had spent his life believing his surname was both duty and identity.
Hannah did not ask him to save it.
She asked him to become someone worthy without it.
Claire rejected the plea offer when prosecutors refused immunity for Victor.
The case moved toward trial.
Before jury selection, one final witness appeared.
Claire’s former personal assistant had recorded Claire practicing Hannah’s forged resignation letter.
In the recording, Claire laughed and said:

“By the time Daniel learns the truth, the maid will be gone and her baby will call me Mother.”
