Chapter 8 - The Limousine Discovery

Federal agents searched Richard's stretch limousine parked outside.

Inside the leather rear seat, they found a safe.

The heavy steel box was locked with digital code.

Agent Vance brought the locked safe into the lobby.

He set it down on a wooden table near entrance.

"We found this in his private vehicle, Admiral."

"It requires a six-digit security passcode to open."

I walked over to the table, looking at keypad.

Richard was being loaded into the police van outside.

He saw me standing over his private safe box.

Panic flared in his eyes as he screamed through window.

"Don't touch that box! That is private property!"

"You have no right to open my personal files!"

I looked at the digital keypad with calm focus.

I remembered a date from my childhood past.

The date my biological mother passed away thirty years.

Richard had forced her to sign estate papers then.

I typed six digits into the silver keypad buttons.

Zero, five, one, two, nine, four.

The electronic lock chimed green with a soft beep.

The heavy steel safe door swung open slowly.

Agent Vance gasped as he saw the contents inside.

The safe was packed with gold bullion bars.

Beside the gold lay a thick leather-bound diary.

The diary belonged to my late mother Elizabeth.

My heart skipped a beat as I recognized handwriting.

I picked up the diary with careful, gentle fingers.

The pages were yellowed with age and time.

I flipped to the final entry written thirty years ago.

The entry revealed a dark secret buried for decades.

Elizabeth had not died of natural sudden illness.

She documented Richard poisoning her daily tea slowly.

He poisoned her to take total control over estate.

My blood ran cold as I read the words.

My father was not just a greedy white-collar crook.

He was a cold, calculating serial murderer.

He killed my mother to inherit her family fortune.

I gripped the leather diary tight in my hand.

The rage inside my heart burned like hot fire.
