Chapter 7 - The Media Swarm

Dozens of television news crews poured into hall.

Reporters held heavy camera rigs on their shoulders.

Microphones were pointed straight at the arrested men.

Bright television lights illuminated the dark wood room.

The wedding had turned into a national broadcast event.

"Admiral Bennett! Is it true the piers were unsafe?"

A female news reporter shouted above the noise.

"Is Senator Vance involved in the bribery ring?"

I held up my hand for quiet order.

The reporters went silent, waiting for my official word.

"The Department of Justice will release a statement."

I announced clearly into the front news microphones.

"All compromised military structures have been secured today."

"Those responsible for treason will face federal trial."

The cameras panned down to Richard and Julian.

The wealthy patriarch and his heir wore handcuffs.

Their faces were broadcast live to millions nationwide.

Viewers across the country watched their shocking downfall.

The Bennett family brand name was ruined forever tonight.

Margaret covered her face with her navy dress scarf.

She sobbed hysterically on the carpeted altar steps.

She could not bear the public social humiliation.

Julian thrashed against the marshals' firm physical grips.

"Turn off those cameras!" Julian screamed out wildly.

"You cannot film me without my lawyer present!"

A photojournalist snapped a close-up photo of Julian.

The image of the crying groom in handcuffs went viral.

Richard hung his head low, avoiding all camera lenses.

The man who once dominated local news was exposed.

The federal marshals began escorting the prisoners out.

They led Richard, Julian, and Senator Vance down aisle.

Their heavy dress shoes dragged across the red carpet.

The wedding guests backed away in total silence.

No one offered a single word of support.

Their high-society friends abandoned them instantly today.

I stood beside my senior officers, watching them leave.

Commander Miller stepped up to my right side.

"The transport vehicles are ready outside, Admiral."

"We are ready to transfer them to federal precinct."

I nodded slowly, keeping my expression granite hard.

"Proceed with transfer, Commander," I ordered firmly.

"Ensure all physical evidence files are locked up."

"Aye aye, Admiral," Miller replied, saluting crisply.
