Chapter 5 - The Closing Net

The two federal agents stopped beside my position.
Agent Vance pulled heavy steel handcuffs from belt.
The cold metal glinted under bright chandelier light.
"Richard Bennett and Julian Bennett, you are under."
Agent Vance announced in a clear firm voice.
"You are charged with federal procurement fraud today."
"You are also charged with treason and endangerment."
Julian let out a pathetic, high-pitched shriek.
He tried to bolt toward the side kitchen door.
A Navy officer stepped into his path instantly.
The officer grabbed Julian's arm with iron grip.
He twisted Julian's arm behind his back hard.
Julian groaned in pain, dropped onto his knees.
Cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.
"Get off me! I am a Bennett!" Julian.
"My family owns this entire city district!"
"You own nothing anymore, Julian," I replied.
"Your bank accounts were frozen one hour ago."
"Your mansion, cars, and yachts are seized."
Richard stood motionless, staring at his cuffed son.
His entire life work was destroyed in minutes.
He looked at me with deep, burning hatred.
"You planned this whole ambush, didn't you?"
Richard spat out, his voice shaking with rage.
"You waited for his wedding day to strike!"
"I didn't choose the date, Richard," I.
"Your steel shipment arrived at the base today."
"The inspection team found the cracks two hours."
"You signed the delivery invoice this morning yourself."
Richard reached into his jacket for mobile phone.
He tried to dial his high-priced corporate lawyer.
Agent Vance snatched the mobile phone from his hand.
"No phone calls, Mr. Bennett," Vance stated.
Vance pulled Richard's arms behind his dark tuxedo.
Steel cuffs ratcheted shut around his thick wrists.
Richard winced as metal bit into his skin.
The mighty patriarch was bound in front everyone.
My mother Margaret dragged herself toward my shoes.
She grabbed the hem of my white trousers.
"Claire, save your brother at least!" she.
"He is young! He was only following orders!"
I pulled my leg back from her desperate grip.
"He is thirty years old, Margaret," I.
