Chapter 2 - The Silent Salute

Every uniformed military officer stood up in unison.
Twenty senior Navy officers rose from their seats.
Their movements were sharp, crisp, and perfectly synchronized.
The heavy scraping of chairs echoed through space.
Civilian guests gasped in pure unadulterated visual shock.
The senior commander snapped into a flawless salute.
His hand rested rigid against his white cap.
Every officer in the room saluted me simultaneously.
The sight of twenty saluting officers paralyzed crowd.
Richard's raised hand froze completely in mid-air.
His arrogant smile evaporated from his wrinkled face.
His jaw dropped open in total utter disbelief.
My mother Margaret gasped loudly, clutching her pearls.
Her face turned as pale as fresh snow.
They had spent decades telling people I failed.
They claimed I was a low-level desk clerk.
Now twenty decorated commanders saluted my four stars.
Four stars meant I was a full admiral.
I held one of the highest military ranks.
Richard's throat moved as he swallowed hard now.
His hands began shaking uncontrollably inside tuxedo pockets.
"Four... four stars?" Richard whispered under breath.
His confident posture began to visibly crumble down.
I slowly raised my right hand to cap.
I returned their crisp military salute with composure.
My voice remained quiet, controlled, and chillingly calm.
"As you were, gentlemen," I commanded softly.
The officers lowered their hands in perfect rhythm.
They remained standing like iron pillars along aisle.
I turned my attention back to my father.
His eyes darted franticly around the silent room.
Wealthy corporate investors watched him with deep confusion.
They realized Richard had lied about his daughter.
He had slandered a four-star Navy admiral.
"Claire... what is the meaning of this?"
Richard stammered out, his voice cracking with fear.
"Why are these military men bowing to you?"
I took one step forward toward the altar.
My polished black shoes clicked on marble floor.
"They are not bowing to me, Richard," I.
"They are standing for the United States Navy."
"And they are here to execute a warrant."
Richard stumbled backward against the wooden altar rail.
