Chapter 9 - THE CAMERAS COME BACK TO LIFE
Madeline met Rebecca in a private conference room.
The attorney placed Eleanor Bennett’s trust on the table but kept several pages covered.
“Your mother built safeguards into this estate,” Rebecca said. “Jason knows your first child changes the management structure. He does not know every condition.”
“Tell me.”
“Not until we secure the original files and determine whether he has already forged your authorization.”
Rebecca showed Madeline two emails sent from an account bearing her name.
Both approved Jason’s access to confidential corporate records.
Madeline had written neither.
Rebecca urged her to leave the mansion immediately.
Madeline wanted to.
But her passport, medical records, and mother’s personal letters were still inside the house.
More importantly, she needed proof.
Without it, Jason would deny everything and portray her as a frightened pregnant woman manipulated by her father.
Rebecca gave her access to a secondary cloud security account that Eleanor had established years earlier.
Jason had shut down the mansion’s visible cameras several times.
He did not know the original system still contained hidden backups.
That afternoon, Madeline returned home and activated them.
Blue lights flashed briefly across the control panel.
Jason noticed.
“System update,” she said.
He accepted the answer.
For the next two days, Madeline pretended everything was normal.
She apologized for questioning him.
She agreed to review the proxy papers again.
Jason became affectionate.
He brought flowers.
He kissed her stomach and told the baby that Daddy was fixing everything.
The cameras recorded all of it.
They also recorded Jason entering his office after midnight.
Chelsea joined him through the garden entrance.
Madeline watched from her locked bedroom as the live feed appeared on her phone.
Chelsea threw the unsigned proxy onto Jason’s desk.
“She’s stalling.”
Jason poured two drinks.
“Tomorrow, she signs.”
“And if she doesn’t?”
Jason looked toward the office camera, believing it was inactive.
“Then she leaves with nothing.”
Chelsea laughed.
“What about the baby?”
Jason took a slow sip.
“The baby is the reason we’re out of time.”
Madeline saved the recording and sent it to Rebecca.
Then she contacted Owen Price, a former financial officer Jason had fired without explanation.
She asked one question.
“Did Jason steal from my mother’s company?”
Owen replied within a minute.
