Chapter 10 - THE MORNING OF THE ATTACK

Owen agreed to deliver the records that evening.
Madeline packed a small suitcase.
She placed her ultrasound photographs, medication, passport, and mother’s jewelry inside.
Then she waited for Jason to leave.
He did not.
At eight that morning, he appeared in the bedroom doorway carrying the proxy agreement.
“Rebecca called my office,” he said.
Madeline’s heart began pounding.
“She asked whether I had your authorization to access the trust.”
“I told her I did.”
“You lied.”
Jason closed the door.
“We’re married. Stop using that word.”
Madeline moved toward her phone.
He reached it first.
“I need space,” she said.
“You need to sign.”
Jason placed the papers on the dresser.
Madeline refused.
For several seconds, they stared at each other.
Then the front gate opened.
Chelsea’s silver coupe entered the property.
Madeline looked toward the window.
“You planned this.”
Jason did not answer.
Madeline grabbed her suitcase and hurried downstairs. Jason followed, telling her to calm down.
She reached the black sedan and locked herself inside.
The engine started.
But the gates would not open.
Chelsea parked across the driveway and stepped out carrying a metal bar.
Madeline called 911 through her smartwatch.
Jason stood beside the car and held up a small remote.
The doors clicked.
Madeline pulled the handle.
Nothing happened.
“What did you do?”
Jason leaned toward the glass.
“You’re going to sign the papers.”
Chelsea struck the rear side window.
The glass cracked.
Madeline screamed.
“You could hurt the baby!”
“Then stop fighting us,” Chelsea shouted.
Three patrol vehicles arrived before Chelsea shattered the second window.
The officers stepped out with their body cameras activated and ordered her to put down the bar.
Jason immediately approached them.
“My wife is having some kind of breakdown,” he said. “She threatened Chelsea and locked herself in.”
Madeline slammed her palm against the windshield.
“He locked me in!”
Jason turned slightly, hiding the remote in his hand.
Chelsea climbed onto the hood.
Then she stepped onto the roof.
She raised the metal bar above Madeline’s head.
Jason did not stop her.
He only said, “Maybe now you’ll understand.”

The first blow came down.
👉 Jason believed the disabled cameras had left Madeline without proof, unaware that every threat was already uploading beyond his control.
