Chapter 3 - ELEVEN MINUTES MISSING

The baby’s heartbeat remained steady.
Madeline lay beneath a white hospital blanket, watching the monitor rise and fall while medication slowed the contractions.
She should have felt safe.
Instead, every sound in the hallway made her tense.
Samuel stood near the door. He had faced armed suspects, riots, and families receiving the worst news of their lives.
But he seemed afraid to take one step closer to his own daughter.
“You can sit,” Madeline said quietly.
He lowered himself into the chair beside the bed.
They had not been alone together in almost three years.
Jason had told her that Samuel hated their marriage. He said her father viewed everyone as a suspect and would never respect the man she loved.
Eventually, Jason began answering Samuel’s calls for her.
Then he encouraged Madeline to change her number.
After that, the birthday cards stopped arriving.
At least, she thought they had stopped.
A detective entered carrying a sealed evidence bag.
“We checked the vehicle,” she said. “The internal release cables were cut. The electronic system was modified so the doors could be locked remotely, even while the key was inside.”
Madeline closed her eyes.
Jason had driven the car to a private service garage three days earlier. He claimed the brakes needed inspection.
“There’s more,” the detective continued. “The mansion’s security system went offline eleven minutes before the first emergency call.”
Samuel leaned forward.
“But Madeline received footage.”
“She had activated a secondary cloud account,” the detective said. “Whoever shut off the main system didn’t know the backup existed.”
Madeline remembered Jason standing in the kitchen that morning, asking why the security panel had flashed blue.
She had lied and said it was a software update.
The detective placed a tablet on the bed.
The final clip showed Jason inside his office before the attack. He held a remote control in one hand and spoke to Chelsea on the phone.
His voice was too low to understand.
But the timestamp was clear.
He had disabled the cameras.
Then, eleven minutes later, Chelsea arrived with a metal bar.
Samuel’s jaw tightened.
Madeline watched her husband’s silent image on the screen.
“How long have you suspected him?” she asked her father.
Samuel looked down.

“Longer than you’re going to forgive me for.”
👉 Samuel’s answer would force Madeline to revisit the day Jason first entered her life—and the warning she refused to hear.
