Halcyon’s shareholders gathered for the most important vote in the company’s history.
Northstar controlled the outcome.
Claire could have decided everything alone.
Instead, she allowed minority shareholders and employee representatives to speak first.
They approved new rules separating board leadership from executive management.
Large transactions would require independent valuation.
Executive relationships had to be disclosed.
Employee options could not be canceled through a merger without direct approval.
Northstar would retain majority ownership but reduce its voting power over time through an employee equity program.
Claire wanted Halcyon protected even after she was gone.
The final vote permanently removed Adrian and Celeste from all positions.
Both were barred from future access to company systems or confidential information.
Civil claims sought repayment of diverted funds, investigation expenses, and damages from the failed merger.
Adrian attended remotely through his attorney.
Celeste did not attend.
When the vote concluded, Claire returned to the laboratory.
The original prototype still sat inside a glass case.
A handwritten label beneath it read:
HALCYON GRID MODEL—C. BENNETT AND TEAM.
Adrian had once replaced that label with one crediting the founders generally.
Elena had restored Claire’s name.
Claire touched the glass.
She did not want revenge to become the final chapter of her work.
She wanted Halcyon to survive them all.
The board appointed Elena as interim CEO.
Six months later, after an external search, she received the permanent position.
Claire returned as chief innovation chair, working three days a week with young engineers.
She no longer hid her ownership.
She also refused to let it define her.
Adrian’s divorce claim to Northstar was dismissed.
The court upheld the prenuptial agreement and found substantial evidence that he had forged documents and concealed marital assets.
The divorce proceeded under strict financial supervision.
Claire kept the apartment she owned before marriage, Northstar, and her intellectual property.
Adrian retained only property proven to be his after restitution claims.
The mansion where they had lived was sold.
Claire did not bid on it.
A large house could preserve memories.
