Chapter 13 - The Airport Photograph
The screen lit again.
The first image showed Grant kissing Elise in the Charlotte airport.
The pink tulips were crushed between them.
His hand rested on her waist.
The silver archive case stood beside their luggage.
The ballroom erupted.
Elise stepped backward.
Grant stared at Vanessa.
“You followed me?”
“I came to welcome my husband home.”
The second image showed Elise holding the restricted suitcase.
The third displayed the time and location.
Then the airport recording played.
Elise’s voice filled the room.
“She has no idea.”
Grant’s answer followed through the noise.
“Tomorrow she’ll be sitting at our table while I explain why she can’t lead anymore.”
Several donors stood.
Mrs. Porter covered her mouth.
The host moved away from the stage as though Grant had become dangerous.
Grant pointed toward the screen.
“This proves an affair. It does not prove financial wrongdoing.”
Elise looked at him sharply.
He had just abandoned her in front of the room.
Vanessa saw the realization spread across Elise’s face.
To Grant, she had always been expendable.
The screen changed.
CardiaBridge’s registration appeared beside Elise’s brother’s name.
Bank records showed payments to Reed Strategic Partners.
Invoices revealed that CardiaBridge had billed the foundation for clinics that did not exist.
The stolen clinic photographs appeared beside the real organizations from which they had been taken.
Grant tried to leave the stage.
Marcus stepped in front of him.
“You are not being detained,” Marcus said calmly. “But no foundation property leaves this room.”
Elise clutched the silver suitcase.
“Grant told me everything was approved.”
Grant turned on her.
“Stop talking.”
Her mouth fell open.
Vanessa looked toward Mara in the control booth.
Mara displayed the forged leadership statement and notary record.
Then she displayed Malcolm’s payments.
Malcolm collapsed into his chair.
Evelyn addressed the guests.
“The board has frozen every account associated with this proposed transfer.”
Grant laughed bitterly.
“You cannot remove me based on a jealous wife’s performance.”
Vanessa stepped onto the stage.
“This is not about jealousy.”
She looked down at the suitcase.
May you like
“It is about what you removed from my mother’s trust.”
👉 The affair was now public and the fraud was visible, but the missing trust document inside the case contained a secret even Grant had failed to understand.
