Chapter 8 - THE THRESHOLD HE WAS WARNED NOT TO CROSS

Michael kept one shoe inside Mariana’s doorway.

“Move,” she said.

“This was my house for eleven years.”

“It was never legally yours.”

Celeste stepped closer.

“You cannot erase a marriage with paperwork.”

“No. Michael did that before the paperwork.”

The two men behind them shifted uncomfortably.

One was Nathan Cole, an early investor in Arden Legacy Partners.

The other was Paul Serrano, a Sapphire Room account director.

Michael had told them Mariana would restore the cards and personally confirm the Reyes guarantee.

Nathan looked at her.

“Did your family back Michael’s fund?”

“No.”

Michael turned sharply.

“Mariana, be careful.”

She raised her phone.

“Careful about telling the truth?”

Celeste attempted to push the door wider with her handbag.

“You spoiled little—”

Mariana pressed the alarm button.

A voice came through the security system.

“Police have been notified.”

Michael removed his foot.

Only then.

Paul looked toward the blinking camera.

“This is being recorded?”

“Every second,” Mariana said.

Michael’s confidence began collapsing.

Nathan took out his phone.

“You told me she signed the guarantee.”

“She did.”

Mariana opened the forged document Gustavo had sent her.

“That is not my signature.”

Nathan stared at Michael.

“My firm transferred six million dollars.”

“Your capital is secure,” Michael insisted.

“Where?”

“The fund is in a temporary liquidity position.”

“Where is the money?”

Michael did not answer.

Celeste pointed toward Mariana.

“She froze it out of spite.”

Mariana looked at Nathan.

“My accounts were used without authorization. The divorce decree terminated access forty-eight hours ago.”

Nathan stepped away from Michael.

Sirens approached.

Michael lowered his voice.

“Mariana, we can solve this privately.”

“You came to my home shouting.”

“Because you left me no choice.”

“You had every choice before you forged my name.”

Celeste gasped dramatically.

“Do not accuse my son of a crime.”

Mariana looked at the handbag.

“Your Sapphire Room charges alone exceed two hundred thousand dollars.”

“That was family spending.”

“You are no longer my family.”

Police vehicles stopped outside.

Michael glanced toward the street.

Then he looked directly into the doorbell camera.

He finally understood that every threat, demand, and admission had been preserved.

An officer approached the steps.

Mariana remained inside.

She did not open the door wider.

Michael tried one final time.

“Tell them this was a misunderstanding.”

Mariana’s voice stayed calm.

“No.”

The officer separated Michael and Celeste from the entrance.

Nathan handed over the guarantee letter.

Paul surrendered the unpaid club invoice.

The doorway confrontation had just connected the forged signature to a real investor loss.

👉 Michael arrived expecting Mariana to rescue him, but he left under police questioning while his own investor handed over evidence.
